Treat Signs of Ageing, Scars, Skin Health with EXCEED Skin Needling

Today, we are proud to introduce the newest addition to our portfolio of fantastic treatments, Skin Needling! Specifically, skin needling with the EXCEED device – the new standard for skin needling that is rapidly surpassing other similar devices on the market. There’s a lot of information and misinformation on the internet so we’re here to give you a rundown on the topic of skin needling and its multipurpose benefits.

What is Skin Needling?

Skin needling, also known as microneedling or collagen induction therapy, is a minimally invasive aesthetic procedure that involves using a device with small needles to create tiny puncture wounds on the skin’s surface.

The purpose of skin needling is to stimulate the body’s natural healing process and encourage collagen production, which can improve the skin’s texture and appearance!

While skin needling has hit the mainstream recently due to new technological advancements, the treatment is a tried-and-true method dating back to the 1980s. Dermatologist Dr. Phillippe Simonin first discovered that facelift patients who had undergone camouflage tattooing after surgery to hide scars showed substantial improvement in their scar appearance.

How Does EXCEED Skin Needling Work?

EXCEED is a medical-grade micro-needling device for the treatment of ageing, scarring, and overall skin health. Medically cleared by the TGA (ARTG #315425) and approved by the FDA, EXCEED, the device has a pen-like attachment containing several tiny needles that is glided over the skin to create micro-injuries and stimulate the body’s natural healing response.

When the needles penetrate the skin, they create small channels or micro-channels that go through the top layer of the skin, called the epidermis, and into the deeper layer of the skin, called the dermis. These micro-channels trigger a cascade of events that lead to the production of new collagen and elastin fibres.

Collagen and elastin are essential proteins that give the skin its firmness, elasticity, and youthful appearance. As we age, the production of collagen and elastin decreases, leading to fine lines, wrinkles, and sagging skin. Skin needling helps to increase the production of these proteins, which can improve the skin’s texture and appearance.

Benefits of EXCEED Skin Needling

While skin needling is minimally invasive, it delivers rapid and impressive results. The benefits can be broken down as follows:

Anti-Ageing

Common ageing concerns such as skin laxity, dark spots, sun damage, fine lines, and wrinkles are made less visible to the eye through the treatment’s production of new collagen and elastin. A report demonstrates that 90% of patients noticed an improvement in facial wrinkles

Scar Reduction

Cell turnover triggered via skin needling process can help to minimize the appearance of scars, including acne scars, surgical scars, and stretch marks. A study on skin needling using the EXCEED device reports that 86% of patients notice a visible improvement in their acne scars.

Skin Tone & Texture

Collagen and elastin production helps to smooth out rough skin texture, reduce the appearance of enlarged pores, and even out skin tone.

Skin Hydration (Skincare Product Penetration)

Micro-channels created during the treatment procedure can improve the skin’s ability to absorb topical treatments, including serums and moisturizers. Active ingredients will penetrate deeper into the skin for intense rejuvenation so you’ll find your skincare products to be more effective than ever!

Skin Radiance

Skin needling also increases blood flow and the delivery of essential nutrients to the skin cells. This can improve overall skin health and tone, giving the skin a more healthy, youthful and glowing appearance.

Before & After Effects of Skin Needling (Collagen Induction Therapy)

EXCEED vs. Other Skin Needling Devices

Not all products are created equal. The EXCEED device is a remarkable and effective treatment for collagen induction therapy but how does it compare to other devices on the market you might ask?

Unparalleled Skin Trauma Prevention

EXCEED’s standout feature is its unique flexible needle plate, allowing for needles to release easily from the skin following penetration. During the skin needling procedure, the EXCEED pen moves laterally and its needles adjust accordingly to minimise epidermal trauma. Other pen-like devices have a fixed up-and-down motion that inevitably creates scratching and drag when glided across the skin. Likewise, dermal rollers cause arcing cuts that create unnecessary pain and tissue damage.

Quicker Downtimes & Recovery Periods

Focusing on quality over quantity, the device only uses 6 pinpoint sharp stainless needles of the highest medical grade so as to reduce surface tension. This is distinct from other microneedling devices which tend to use more needles, inherently causing the needles to push down on the skin before actually penetrating it and therefore create unnecessary trauma in the form of micro-tears. This means that clients can expect much shorter post-treatment downtime when skin needling using EXCEED.

Versatile & High Precision Collagen Induction Therapy

Whereas most other pens have 8 depth settings, EXCEED offers 19 depth options. This range of depth allows it to treat a wider range of skin concerns, as well as target skin concerns that lie deeper underneath. Pair this with its 11 speed settings and the EXCEED can effectively target all different areas and types of skin whether thick or thin.

Guaranteed Safety

Medically cleared by the TGA (ARTG #315425) and approved by the FDA, EXCEED has disposable cartridges which are single-use for every treatment. More importantly, it is the only device to utilize a dual-layer membrane in the cartridge. This ensures that no substances are drawn back into the handpiece, guaranteeing a 0% chance of cross-contamination.

EXCEED Microneedling Device

At-Home Microneedling vs. Professional Skin Needling with EXCEED

While there are many options for microneedling at home given how convenient and affordable it is, it’s not exactly a wise choice. For one, home dermarollers are used over and over again. So as well as dragging or tearing your skin, you are also risking cross-contamination.

There is also the option of purchasing professional microneedling devices online for home use but this can cause more problems than benefits. Operation at deeper depths (over 0.5mm) cannot be done so safely or effectively without knowledge or expertise. Not to mention, deeper doesn’t necessarily mean better.

Here at TEMPL, our trained therapists will assess your skin prior to the treatment and determine the most appropriate penetration settings so as to target each concern most effectively. What’s more, skin needling at our boutique is performed in a sterile environment, allowing for safe and risk-free treatment.

Treatment Areas

Skin needling can be used to treat the face, neck, and décolletage, including anywhere on the body with scarring or loose skin.

What’s Involved?

Our skin needling treatment is near painless. We apply a topical anaesthesia so that minimal to no pain is felt during the procedure. During the treatment, the EXCEED tool is gently glided across the skin’s surface where micro needles create small punctures to induce natural collagen production. The device runs quietly as a low vibration is felt on the skin. We finish the treatment off with an Epi Nouvelle mask to help reduce post-treatment swelling and redness, as well as overall downtime.

Preparation and Aftercare

Active skincare ingredients such as retinols and acids should be avoided 3 days prior to your skin needling treatment and 5 days following it.

After a session, clients will notice slight swelling and moderate redness. This is completely normal and should subside after 1 – 2 hours and disappear within 24 hours.

For enhanced results, avoid makeup and sunscreen for the first 24 hours, and direct sunlight for the 48 hours. Staying hydrated will help boost skin repair.

Maintenance

Our therapists at TEMPL will formulate a custom maintenance plan just for you. Just keep in mind that all anti-ageing treatments are not permanent (if someone tells you they are – run!). The average turnover time it takes for your skin to heal is 3 – 4 weeks so we recommend our clients tend to drop by for a skin touchup every 6 – 8 weeks.
