HOW DOES IT WORK?
Collagen Induction Therapy (CIT) or skin needling treatments stimulate the production of your own natural collagen and promote the regeneration of skin cells through a natural healing process.Â
Skin needling is a minimally-invasive, medically-approved treatment for building new collagen and promoting healthy and glowing skin. Utilising the Exceed system, small, sterilised needles create microscopic wounds on the skin’s surface that penetrate to the sub-dermal layers. These aren’t harmful, but rather stimulate amazing rejuvenating effects that treat a wide range of skin concerns!
The main principle behind skin needling is to create controlled injuries that stimulate the skin’s natural regenerative ability. Your skin is comprised of several structural proteins, such as collagen, that generate rapidly when the skin is injured. By creating micro-injuries, the skin’s cell turnover rate is sped up. Old, damaged skin cells are shed for fresh new ones as you heal.

WHAT TO EXPECT
ON THE DAY
In preparation for the skin needling treatment, we cleanse the skin and sterilise it with alcohol. With your complete comfort in mind, we apply a topical anaesthesia so that minimal to no pain is felt during the procedure.
During the skin needling treatment, the EXCEED tool is gently glided across the skin’s surface where micro needles create small punctures to induce natural collagen production. The device runs quietly as a low vibration is felt on the skin. To ensure a relaxing experience, the EXCEED device can be finely adjusted to clients’ liking, this includes penetration depth and speed.
Finishing off the skin needling session, we use an Epi Nouvelle mask to help reduce post-treatment swelling and redness, as well as overall downtime. Incredibly, the tiny punctures created by the skin needling treatment also allow for better absorption of skincare products, so the repair process is enhanced!
PREPARATION AND AFTERCARE
We recommend against using skincare ingredients such as retinols and actives 3 days prior to your skin needling treatment. Likewise, these actives should also be avoided for a total of 5 days following the skin needling session. If you are unsure whether your skincare products contain these ingredients, we would be glad to discuss them with you.
After a skin needling session, clients will notice slight swelling and moderate redness. This is completely normal and should subside after 1 – 2 hours and disappear within 24 hours. Slight redness can sometimes persist in small areas beyond a day, however.
To make the most out of the results, following the skin needling session, clients should refrain from applying makeup and sunscreen for the first 24 hours, and avoid direct sunlight for 48 hours. Staying hydrated also does wonders for this skin – this is more crucial than ever when your skin is repairing itself.
MAINTENANCE
Your therapist will work with you to come up with a custom maintenance plan. Keep in mind, all anti-ageing treatments are not permanent (if someone tells you they are – run!)
On average, the turnover time it takes for your skin to heal is 3 – 4 weeks – this can vary depending on age, genetics, and lifestyle. In general, we recommend our clients tend to drop by for a skin touchup every 6 – 8 weeks.
The Technology
OUR EQUIPMENT
EXCEED is a medical-grade micro-needling device for the treatment of ageing, scarring, and overall skin health. TGA-approved and the first FDA-cleared device of its kind, EXCEED is quickly surpassing similar devices because of its excellent skin trauma-minimising capabilities.
EXCEED causes much less damage to the epidermis than dermal rolling or many other micro-needling devices available on the market. Other devices tend to use more needles which push down on the skin before actually penetrating it, creating micro-tears and causing unnecessary trauma. However, with the EXCEED, using only 6 pinpoint sharp stainless needles of the highest medical grade helps to reduce surface tension. So compared to other similar devices, clients can expect a much shorter post-treatment downtime when skin needling with the EXCEED.
This is accompanied by its flexible needle plate that allows for needles to release easily from the skin following penetration. During the skin needling procedure, the EXCEED handpiece moves laterally and its needles adjust accordingly to minimise epidermal trauma. This is different from most devices which have a fixed up-and-down motion that inherently creates scratching and drag.
